I will always snack because it makes me a better person, a better mom, a better friend. Seems silly to say this about snacking, BUT too often I see people not have a snack to “be good” or “to keep calories in check”. I just had a woman join my Facebook Community (If you’re not a member yet, click here to join!) & when I asked about snacking, she goes “Oh don’t worry, I don’t snack!” … like it’s a bad thing!
However, I get it, as a busy mom myself, I too struggle to fit snacking into my life despite being pretty routine with it.
BUT, the reason I make sure to prioritize snacking for me (& my family) is that it gives me ENERGY & focus throughout the day & allows me to make the best food decisions for the remainder of the day because I don’t reach that HANGRY state. Going TOO long without eating is never a good idea. I actually encourage most of my clients to include snacks because they actually need MORE food, not less.
On days I “forget” to snack or don’t plan anything… and let me know if you can relate… I am wayyyyy more likely to overeat at dinner or in the evening on the couch. Why? My body is trying to make up for the lack of nourishment earlier in the day.
I see it SO often. People are “good” from breakfast through lunch eating their small planned meals but come dinner time & beyond… it’s another story. The same thing… people aren’t eating enough (aka skipping snacks) so they are STARVING when they get home from work, school, running the kids around, etc. – which leads to OVEREATING.
If this is you, know you are not alone! I too get overwhelmed by finding time to plan for snacking throughout the day. BUT you are worth it. If you feel like you’re in a snacking rut, switch it up. Try some new ideas. Every person’s situation is different, you just need to find the process that works best for you so that you can find CONSISTENCY in your snacking routine. Here are some snacking ideas to get you started!
Remember, we all have the same amount of time each day… are you PRIORITIZING things that will benefit your health?
