Feeling SPOOKED by the busy week of holiday fun ahead?! Don’t be scared! Remember… it just takes a little PLANNING to set yourself up for success, whether it’s an easy or straight-up CRAZY week! To all my mamas, let’s stop using “BUSY” as an excuse & just begin, okay?! You are worth it!
Here are 4 tips to build a successful week & feel in control of your food choices…
Make a PLAN
Planning is everything. If you don’t plan, you plan to fail. But, it doesn’t have to be complicated or take TONS of time. Pick 1-2 options to have for breakfast & lunch, plan 3-4 dinners (including the days you’ll use leftovers), plan 1-2 dining out meals, & 3 snacks to rotate throughout the week. That’s it. Just assigning the days & meals can be a HUGE stress reliever. No more standing in front of an open fridge trying to “figure out what to make”… because we know that doesn’t turn out well! Use your phone, dry erase board or paper to store your plan for the week.
Write Out the GROCERY LIST
Next, make a list using your plan to make the shopping part easier. It also helps you stay on track with your food choices. Organize your list by food groups or aisle for easier shopping. Use a grocery list app like AnyList for writing lists to save frequently used items & repeat lists.
SHOP for the Groceries
Then, use your list to buy the goods! Whether you’re shopping 1-2x/week or 2x/month, you’ll do the same process. Make it work with your schedule. Short on time? Plan for grocery pick-up or delivery to save your time for other things you want to get done. Need more tips for grocery shopping? Check THIS out!
PREP some Groceries for the Week
Lastly, when you get home, even if it is the last thing you want to do, it is great to chop some fresh fruit & veggies for snacks & recipes BEFORE you even put them in the fridge. Yes, meal prepping saves time & ensures you’ll be able to use those ingredients before they go bad. Right when you get home, is also a good time to prepare & cook some proteins for the week or divide & freeze them for later. If right after shopping doesn’t work for you, pick a time that does & stick with it!
Oh, & ONE MORE thing… We want to avoid being OVERWHELMED, so assign each of these tips to a DIFFERENT day of the week. That way, you won’t be overloaded with everything in one day & may actually start to ENJOY it.
