5 Things to be More Consistent with for Good Health

by | Sep 13, 2022

When you’re on a health journey, consistency is key.  Going all or nothing never works, so it is best to find routines that you can maintain for the long haul.  People tend to think in EXTREMES… meaning they need to find a diet to be “healthy” or they need to join a gym & start going 7 days a week… but that’s going to lead to burnout.  Instead, here are 5 things to be more consistent with for good health & to help immediately start feeling better mentally & physically.

EAT Regular Meals & Snacks

You need to be eating every 3-4 hours every day.  This helps keep you fueled, makes sure your energy is high, & that your blood sugars & metabolism are in check.  Going too long without eating can lead to overeating later on & indulging on foods you normally wouldn’t.  Once you get in the rhythm of routinely eating throughout the day, you’ll notice how much better you feel – so start working on building this habit right away.

MOVE Daily

You don’t need to do HIIT workouts or boot camps every single day… nor should you!  Instead, set aside time to MOVE, especially if you are sedentary most of the day.  Walking is great & is SO underrated.  Find a balance of cardio exercises & strength training throughout the week.  If you can, incorporating yoga & stretching routinely is going to be best for recovery & longevity.  Set a goal of 3 days/week to start & build from there as you start feeling better.

HYDRATE, Hydrate, Hydrate

Aim for half your body weight in pounds in ounces of water each day. Water is best, so always make sure you start there… but other fluids can count towards this goal too.  Think no-calorie & low-calorie sports drinks, sparkling water, & flavored water, & also other beverages like milk. Fruits & veggies with high water content will contribute to your hydration too.  You can also make your own flavored water by infusing fruits & veggies in… think homemade cucumber water or raspberry mint.

SLEEP At Least 7 Hours Each Night

This should be non-negotiable!  We are all busy, but certain things need to be put off until the next day if it is cutting into your sleep.  If you are routinely under-sleeping, it can affect your energy, metabolism, blood sugars, eating habits, movement, & hydration.  If there is one thing to start working on today, it is making sleep a habit consistently!

CARVE Out Daily “Me Time”

As a part of self-care, you should make sure you are scheduling “me time” into your calendar daily.  And no, the basics of eating, showering, & exercising don’t count.  You deserve time to just breathe, get outside, meditate, read, journal, play games, craft, etc. – things that bring you joy & peace.  Allowing yourself time to reset each day leads to better overall happiness.
